Removing


Follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components ] Description and Operation.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.


Move the front seat as far up as possible. This reduces the spring force when removing and installing the torsion bar and the risk of damaging the threaded connections between the upper and lower seat frames.

- Remove front seat:

Standard and Sport Manual Seat. Refer to => [ Manual Standard Front Seats ] Manual Standard Front Seats.

Standard and Sport Power Seat, Comfort Seat and Super Sport Seat. Refer to => [ Power Standard Front Seats ] Power Standard Front Seats.

- Attach front seat to Fixture For Seat Repair (VAS 6136) => [ Front Seat, Installing on Fixture for Seat Repair VAS 6136 ] Front Seat, Installing on Fixture for Seat Repair VAS 6136.

- Remove tunnel side trim panel:

Standard seat and Sport seat (manual). Refer to => [ Trim, Sill Side ] Trim, Sill Side.

Standard and Sport Power Seat, Comfort Seat and Super Sport Seat. Refer to => [ Trim, Sill Side ] Trim, Sill Side.

- Remove tunnel side trim panel. Refer to => [ Trim, Tunnel Side ] Trim, Tunnel Side.

- Remove the backrest.

Standard and Sport Manual Seat. Refer to => [ Backrest ] Backrest.

Standard and Sport Power Seat, Comfort Seat and Super Sport Seat. Refer to => [ Backrest ] Backrest.


The torsion bar exhibits considerable spring force. Always follow the points below to avoid accidents:

Always remove and install the torsion bar in the sequence described and only using the tools specified.

Never use pliers and other levers.

Do not stand directly in front of the torsion bar when removing and installing it. Stand off to the side.

- Prevent the bracket from spreading (2024 A /1) using the M10 x 30 bolt - 3 - and nut.





- Mount the handle hold driveshaft flange (3145) and bracket (2024 A /1) to the torsion bar - 1 -.

2 Seat pan

- Carefully rotate the torsion bar - 1 - with a screwdriver until it disengages from the oblong hole - arrow - on the seat pan.





- Release the tension on the torsion bar and remove the seat pan - 2 -.

Installation


The torsion bar exhibits considerable spring force. Always follow the points below to avoid accidents:

Always remove and install the torsion bar in the sequence described and only using the tools specified.

Never use pliers and other levers.

Do not stand directly in front of the torsion bar when removing and installing it. Stand off to the side.

- Slide the torsion bar - 1 - into the mount until the end - arrow - comes into contact with the seat pan - 2 -.





- Make sure the torsion bar - 2 - is seated in the mounting bracket - arrow - on the seat pan - 1 - correctly.





- Prevent the bracket from spreading (2024 A /1) using the M10 x 30 bolt - 3 - and nut.





- Mount the handle hold driveshaft flange (3145) and bracket (2024 A /1) to the torsion bar - 1 -.

2 Seat pan

- Carefully rotate the torsion bar - 1 - until it engages in the oblong hole - arrow - on the seat pan.





Further installation is performed in reverse sequence of removal, but observe the following:

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Ensure that electrical connections are pushed in as far as stop and engage with a click.


Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Disconnect the battery ground wire with the ignition switched on.

If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75) indicates a fault after installation, DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again.
