Affected Vehicles

Condition
Additional faults may be stored after replacing any of the following parts: complete rear sports differential, sport differential pressure sensor, or the sport differential temperature sensor. This is due to an incompatibility with the new part and a software update will be necessary.

Technical Background

On all B8 vehicles with a sports differential (SW version: 0004), a software update may be necessary, in addition to all the work described in the repair manual. The software update from version 0004 to 0025 can only be performed if the final drive, the oil pressure, or oil temperature sensor were replaced.

Tip: Performing software updates without part replacement will not be covered by warranty.

Production Solution

Not applicable.

Service

1. After replacement of any of the above listed parts, check the software level of the Rear Final Drive (22 module) for software version. If module is presently at software version 0004 update to 0025 as follows:

2. Complete GFF and then select Powertrain >> All Wheel Drive (Figure 1).

3. Select: 01 OBD Systems >> 22 Sport Differential >> 22 Subsystems Basic Conditions >> J492 Software Update, as shown in Figure 2.

4. Next, follow the update instructions and verify the software updates to 0025.

5. Clear all fault codes and test drive to verify no faults return.
