Gas-Filled Strut

Different gas-filled struts are installed and their removal varies.

Removing the gas-filled strut with the steel spring






There is a risk of an accident.

Support the lid or secure it against falling down before removing a gas-filled strut.

- Detach the gas-filled strut for the hood by lifting retaining spring - 2 - using a small screwdriver - 1 - - arrow -. Now remove gas-filled strut - 3 - from the ball stud.

- Use commercially available needle-nose pliers to press plastic clip - 1 - together as shown and remove gas-filled strut - 2 - from the ball pin.

Installation

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

The gas-filled strut tube is installed on the lid side.

- Press the gas-filled strut onto the ball stud until it engages audibly.

- Clamp gas-filled strut in a vise in area - x - = 50 mm (2 in.).

Risk of injury!

Only clamp in this area.

Wear protective eyewear when sawing.

To collect escaping oil, cover the cut area with a cleaning cloth.

- Cut through the gas-filled strut cylinder within the first third of the overall cylinder length using the piston rod end of the cylinder as a reference point.
