Instrument Cluster with Instrument Cluster Control Module (J285)

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Protective Cap For Cable Connector (VAS 6223/9) from Fiber Optic Plier Repair Set (VAS 6223)

Observe notes on contact corrosion => [ Contact Corrosion ] Service Precautions.

All warning lamps in instrument cluster are fitted with light-emitting diodes. In case an indicator lamp is malfunctioning, the instrument cluster must be replaced.

Do not disassemble instrument cluster.

It is not necessary to remove the steering wheel in order to remove the instrument cluster.

- If the instrument cluster with the Instrument cluster control module was replaced, select the "Replace" function for the corresponding control module in the "Guided Fault Finding" or "Guided Functions" operating mode on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

Removal






- Adjust steering wheel downward and to rear as far as possible, use entire adjustment range of steering column adjustment for this.

- Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to => [ Light Switch (E1) ] Light Switch (E1).

- Remove the instrument cluster frame.

- Remove the bolts - 1 and 3 -.

- Pull the instrument cluster - 2 - out just far enough until it is touching the steering wheel.

- Disconnect the connector - 2 - for the fiber-optic cable and the connector - 1 -.






- Seal open wiring harness fiber optic connector - 2 - with (VAS 6223/9) - item 1 -.






Protective cap prevents contamination of or mechanical damage to end face of fiber optic cable which would impair signal transmission.

- To disconnect electrical connector, press catch - 1 -, turn retaining bracket in - direction of arrow - and remove connector.






- Remove the instrument cluster on the front passenger side between the steering wheel and the instrument panel.

Installation

Tightening specification, refer to => [ Instrument Cluster Overview ] Instrument Cluster Overview.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

- Follow the instructions on the Vehicle Diagnosis Tester display with a new instrument cluster.

- Install the frame for the instrument cluster.

- Install the headlamp switch. Refer to => [ Light Switch (E1) ] Light Switch (E1).
