Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 37 number 13-99 dated April 1, 2013 for reasons listed below.

Vehicle Information

Condition

^ Customer may report transmission warning light is illuminated. In some cases, the vehicle will not move after being started and placed into gear. After key cycle, the vehicle drives without restriction.

^ One of the following DTCs is stored in the transmission control module (TCM), J217 (02):

^ DTC P060A00 (Internal Control Module Monitoring Processor Performance) with DFCC 8692

^ DTC P060A00 (Internal Control Module Monitoring Processor Performance) with DFCC 8694

^ DTC P060A00 (Internal Control Module Monitoring Processor Performance) with DFCC 12480

Tip:
If DFCCs do not match exactly, this TSB does not apply.

Technical Background

The DTCs are stored due to an issue with the transmission control module software. Specific DFCCs are stored as a result of the following situations:

^ DTC P060A00 with DFCC 8692 can be logged when a driving mode (Drive or Reverse) is selected within one second of selecting Neutral, while the vehicle rolls at a speed less than 2 mph (such as when the vehicle is being maneuvered in or out of a parking spot).

^ DTC P060A00 with DFCC 8694 can be logged when the gear is quickly changed from Park to Neutral, due to a low diagnosis threshold.

^ DTC P060A00 with DFCC 12480 can be logged when the gear is changed using the Tiptronic function, due to a low diagnosis threshold.

Production Solution

^ New software in the Transmission Control Module (TCM), J217 (02), addressed the condition.

^ For the A8 4.0T and S8 models, there is new software in Engine Control Module (ECM), J623 (01) that should be used in combination with new software in the Transmission Control Module, J217 (02), which addresses the condition.

Service

1. Ensure that the DFCCs match exactly before proceeding. The DFCC is the 4-6 digit code in front of the P code, as pictured (Figure 1).

2. Update the software using the SVM Update Instructions.

SVM Update Instructions

1. Follow all instructions in the attached TSB, 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.

2. Update the TCM using the SVM action code as listed in the table if necessary.

3. For A8 4.0T and S8 vehicles, update the ECM and the TCM, if necessary. The update may have already been performed in TSB 2033726.

4. Clear adaptations and perform test drive adaptation through GFF for 2011 model year.

5. Clear adaptations and perform standstill adaptation for 2012 or 2013 model year.
