Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 00 number 13-44 dated January 17, 2013 for reasons listed below.

Vehicle Information

Condition

Customer complains of one or both of the following:

^ Engine and ignition shut off when driver's door is opened.

^ Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) activates when driver's door is opened (A6/A7/S6/S7 only).

Technical Background

Vehicle Departure Deactivation (VDD) was added in MY13 vehicles equipped with Start-Stop, beginning with CW22/2012 production. This feature turns off the engine and ignition under the following conditions (Scenario A):

^ The vehicle has been moved.

^ The driver's seat belt is removed.

^ The brake pedal is not pressed.

^ The vehicle is stationary.

^ The driver's door is opened.

On A6/A7/S6/S7 vehicles, these events will also activate the EPB.

Production Solution

Revised VDD/EPB strategy to improve customer satisfaction.

Service

It is possible to change the functionality of VDD/EPB through a coding change within the vehicle. Please discuss with the customer if they would like the functionality of these features changed. Once changed, the operation would be as follows (Scenario B):

^ Engine and ignition will no longer shut off when the vehicle is exited.

^ If the engine is off (due to Start-Stop) when the door is opened, the ignition will shut off to prevent battery drain.

^ The parking brake will not activate when the ignition is switched off. (A6/A7/S6/S7 Only)

To change vehicle functionality to Scenario B:

1. Follow all instructions in the attached TSB, 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.

2. Update the Comfort System Central Control Module, J393 (46), using the SVM action code as listed in the table shown if necessary.

3. Insert the owner's manual supplement, 131.564.6VK.21, into the owner's manual. Additional supplements may be ordered from www.audi.techliterature.com if needed.

4. If available, replace the old Start-Stop glovebox insert (Figure 1), with the new glovebox insert BR-12-631-US (Figure 2). Additional inserts may be ordered from the Brand Store.
