86BMW04

GROUP 12 Engine - Electrical
Bulletin Number 12 06 8 6 (1278) Page 1 of 2
Montvale, NJ November 1986 Technical Dept.
SUBJECT: Installation of New Camshaft Rotor Adapter and Distributor Cap as part of the
Secondary Ignition Components: Upgrade during 1986 Gasoline Engine Campaign

MODELS: 533i/633CSi/733i produced prior to January 1984

Situation: A) Oil leakage might occur after installation of the camshaft rotor adapter.

B) The existing cooling fan might contact the new distributor protective cap.

Correction: A) Before installation of the new camshaft rotor adapter (P/N 11 31 1 718 761), ensure that the oil seal is slightly above or flush with the surface of the upper cover as illustrated in the sketch below. If outer edge of oil seal is below upper cover, oil seal must be replaced.
B) If the existing cooling fan blades contact the new distributor corrective cap, replace the fan with cooling fan P/N 11 52 1 712 293 which has notched blade tips.
Note: If you find minimal clearance between the fan blade and the distributor protective cap, do not replace the fan. When the fan is in operation, the fan blades tend to bend to the front (towards the radiator) thereby increasing the clearance.
Warranty
Status: A) The labor for checking the oil seal "fit" is included in the Flat Rate allowance in S.I. 12 03 86 (1206).

B) If replacement of the cooling fan is found to be necessary, as part of the BMW "86 Gasoline Engine Campaign", the parts and labor should be included with the parts and labor already being claimed under Defect Code 00 00 99 07 00.
