SHIFT POINTS TOO HIGH
1. Incorrectly adjusted accelerator cable.
2. Seized governor bushing.
3. Worn or defective governor piston rings.
4. Malfunctioning throttle pressure valve in valve body.
5. Jammed shift valves.
SHIFT POINTS TOO LOW
1. Incorrectly adjusted accelerator cable.
2. Seized governor bushing.
3. Malfunctioning throttle pressure valve in valve body.
4. Leaking plastic balls in transfer plate.
SHIFT POINTS TOO HIGH OR LOW AND EXCESSIVELY LONG AND SOFT SHIFTS
1. Clutches C and C1 for 1-2 shift damaged.
2. Clutch B for 2-3 shift damaged.
NO KICKDOWN SHIFTS
1. Incorrectly adjusted accelerator cable.
2. Incorrectly adjusted valve body.
3. Stuck throttle pressure valve in valve body.
4. Leaking plastic balls in transfer plate.
NO ENGAGEMENT INTO PARK POSITION
1. Incorrectly adjusted selector lever.
2. Defective locking mechanism.
NO DISENGAGEMENT FROM PARK POSITION
1. Seized parking lock pawl.
2. Excessive friction in parking lock mechanism.
SLIPS FROM PARK POSITION
1. Incorrectly adjusted selector linkage.
NO MOVEMENT IN DRIVE OR REVERSE
1. Low fluid level.
2. Defective oil pump drive.
3. Damaged drive plate.
4. Seized parking lock pawl.
5. Damaged A and B clutches.
NO MOVEMENT IN DRIVE
1. Incorrectly adjusted selector linkage.
2. Damaged A clutch or clutch feed line leaking.
NO MOVEMENT IN REVERSE
1. Incorrectly adjusted selector linkage.
2. Damaged B or D clutches.
3. Clutch valve and damper B or D in valve body defective.
4. Low fluid level.
SLIPS OR SHAKES IN REVERSE
1. Damaged B or D clutches.
2. Damaged feed line to clutches B or D.
NO MOVEMENT IN REVERSE AND MANUAL 2ND GEAR
1. Shift valve seized in 3rd gear position.
HARD JOLT OR KNOCK DURING REVERSE ENGAGEMENT
1. Damper B in valve body defective.
2. Wrong cover plate in valve body.
3. Incorrectly adjusted accelerator cable.
VEHICLE WILL NOT START IN PARK OR NEUTRAL
1. Defective transmission switch.
VEHICLE CREEPS OR MOVES IN NEUTRAL
1. Incorrectly adjusted selector linkage.
2. Clutch A disengages too slowly.
3. Damaged clutch A.
NO POWER FLOW IN DRIVE OR REVERSE
1. Clogged filter screen.
CSTAYS IN 1ST GEAR WHEN IN DRIVE
1. Seized 1-2 shift valve in valve body.
2. Seized governor bushing.
SHIFTS ONLY 1-2 IN DRIVE
1. Seized 2-3 shift valve in valve body.
DRIVE IN MANUAL 2ND GEAR ONLY
1. Seized 1-2 and 2-3 shift valves in valve body.
DRIVE IN MANUAL 3RD GEAR ONLY
1. Seized 1-2 and 2-3 shift valves in valve body.
2. Seized governor bushing.
DRIVE IN NEUTRAL DETENT
1. Incorrectly adjusted selector linkage.
2. Clutch A or B bonded.
NO BRAKING EFFECT FROM 1ST GEAR WHEN IN MANUAL 2 OR 1
1. Clutch valve and damper D in valve body defective.
2. Clutch D defective.
NO BRAKING EFFECT FROM 2ND GEAR IN MANUAL 2 OR 1
1. Clutch C1 defective.
2. Circlip to Clutch C and C1 broken (if applicable).
TRANSMISSION SHIFTS TOO EARLY (ABOVE 50 MPH) WHEN MANUALLY DOWNSHIFTING FROM 2 TO 1
1. Locking valve pressure of valve body too high.
2. Pressure loss in feed between governor and shift valves.
TRANSMISSION SHIFTS TOO LATE (BELOW 25 MPH) WHEN MANUALLY DOWNSHIFTING FROM 2 TO 1
1. Locking valve pressure of valve body too low.
2. Governor pressure too high.
GRINDING SHIFTS IN ALL GEARS
1. Incorrectly adjusted or disconnected accelerator cable.
2. Low fluid level.
3. Seized throttle pressure valve in valve body.
4. Clutch A defective.
GRINDING SHIFTS FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR
1. Clutches C and C1 slipping.
2. Clutch valve and damper C defective.
3. Incorrectly adjusted or disconnected accelerator cable.
4. Low fluid level.
5. Seized throttle pressure valve in valve body.
6. One-way clutch F defective.
GRINDING SHIFTS FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR
1. Clutch B slipping.
2. Incorrectly adjusted or disconnected accelerator cable.
3. Low fluid level.
4. Low oil pressure.
5. Seized throttle pressure valve in valve body.
6. One-way clutch E defective.
SLIPPAGE IN 3RD GEAR
1. Clutch B slipping.
2. Incorrectly adjusted or disconnected accelerator cable.
3. Low fluid level.
4. Low oil pressure.
5. Seized throttle pressure valve in valve body.
STALL SPEED TOO HIGH
1. Low fluid level.
2. Engaged clutch slipping.
3. One-way clutch F or G slipping.
STALL SPEED TOO LOW
1. Defective converter one-way clutch.
2. Insufficient engine output.
TRANSMISSION VIBRATES UNDER HARD ACCELERATION
1. Clutch A defective.
2. Damaged propeller shaft center mount.
3. One-way clutch F or G defective.
HOWL OR WHINING SOUND AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS OR LOADS
1. Damaged propeller shaft center mount bearing.
2. Damaged extension housing needle bearing.
RATTLING NOISE AT IDLE
1. Damaged drive plate.
2. Tabs on converter torn or damaged.
GRINDING NOISE AT IDLE, ELIMINATED WHEN ENGINE IS ACCELERATED IN NEUTRAL
1. Shift valves rattling in valve body due to improper fluid level.
2. Oil pump cavitation.
HIGH PITCHED NOISE IN ALL GEARS WITH TRANSMISSION COLD
1. Loose valve body bolts.
2. Defective valve body.
SCREECHING NOISE IN ALL GEAR RANGES WITH TRANSMISSION WARM
1. Low fluid level.
2. Defective valve body.
3. Clogged filter screen.
OIL ON CONVERTER HOUSING
1. Damaged shaft seal.
2. Incorrectly installed or damaged O-ring on primary pump housing.
3. Damaged converter.
4. Plug leakage.
5. Damaged O-ring on accelerator cable.
OIL ON OUTPUT SHAFT
1. Damaged shaft seal.
2. Output flange leakage at threads.
BREATHER LEAKAGE
1. Fluid level too high.
2. Incorrect fluid.
3. Defective breather.
4. Breather incorrectly installed.
5. Damaged O-ring on breather.
6. Defective lock washer.
OIL ON SPEEDOMETER DRIVE
1. Damaged O-ring.
2. Defective speedometer bushing seal.
HARSH UPSHIFTS OR DOWNSHIFTS
1. Incorrectly adjusted accelerator cable.
2. Clutch A defective.
IRREGULAR SHIFTS IN MANUAL 2ND GEAR
1. Leaking plastic balls in transfer plate.
TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR
1. Seized governor bushing.
2. Seized shift valve in valve body.
TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT INTO 3RD GEAR
1. Incorrectly adjusted accelerator cable.
2. Seized governor bushing.
3. Seized throttle pressure valve in valve body.
4. Clutch B defective.
HARSH ENGAGEMENT FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR REVERSE
1. Idle speed too high.
2. Damaged spring plates.
KICKDOWN SHIFT SPEED TOO LOW
1. Incorrectly adjusted accelerator cable.
2. Seized throttle pressure valve in valve body.
3. Leaking plastic balls in transfer plate.
4. Defective governor calibration.
KICKDOWN SHIFT SPEED TOO HIGH
1. Seized throttle pressure valve in valve body.
2. Pressure loss between governor housing and valve body.
KICKDOWN SHIFTS TOO LONG AND/OR SPONGY
1. Clutch B defective.
2. Clutches C and C1 defective.
ACCELERATOR CABLE STICKING OR SEIZED
1. Broken return spring on accelerator cam.
2. Disconnected nipple on accelerator cam.
3. Excessive friction in cable sleeve.
