SUBJECT: Adjusting Selector Lever and Accelerator Cable of
4 HP 22 Automatic Transmission

MODELS: 5, 6, 7 Series

General

Information: The selector lever and accelerator cable must be adjusted exactly transmission operation. If shifting difficulties are experienced, always perform the following adjustments first before doing anything else.

Adjustment
Procedures: Adjustment of selector lever position (Figure 1)
^ Move selector lever 1 to position P.
^ Loosen nut 2.
^ Push lever 3 in forward direction (PARK position).
^ Push bowden cable rod 4 towards rear of car.
^ Secure bowden cable rod 4 with nut 2 (counterholding on clamp bushing).
Note tightening torque: 10 ... 12 N-m

GASOLINE ENGINE

Prerequisites
^ Full throttle adjustment must be correct (Labor Operation: 24 00 006). Adjust clearance S (Figure 2) to 0.5 +/- 0.25 mm in idle position by turning nuts 1.
^ Check kickdown stop 2 (Figure 3). Loosen locknut 3 and screw in kickdown stop 2. Depress accelerator pedal 4 to the transmission pressure point (i.e. increased pressure on pedal). In this position screw out the kickdown stop until the accelerator pedal 4 makes contact. Press accelerator pedal 4 to kickdown (final) position. Distance S between lead seal 5 and adjusting sleeve 6 must be at least 44 mm.

DIESEL ENGINE
Prerequisites
^ Actuator lever of injection pump adjusted as specified. Check adjustment (Labor Operation: 13 51 340) if necessary.
^ Temperature-controlled idle speed increase inoperative, e.g. actuator lever of injection pump must make contact with idle stop. Adjust clearance S to 0.5 +/- 0.5 mm by turning nuts 1.
^ Check kickdown stop 2 (Figure 5). Loosen locknut 3 and screw in kickdown stop 2. Depress accelerator pedal 4 to the transmission pressure point (i.e. increased pressure on pedal). In this position screw out the kickdown stop until the accelerator pedal 4 makes contact. Press accelerator pedal 4 to kickdown (final) position. Distance S between lead seal 7 and adjusting sleeve 8 must be at least 44 mm.
