Vacuum Advance Simulator & Measurement Adapter Information

Vacuum Advance Simulator

For cooler running at idle and easier starting, a vacuum advance control is incorporated in the E30. Since it is virtually impossible to simulate all conditions in a dealership a vacuum advance simulator has been made available.

Operating instructions and information on the vacuum advance simulator and the mixture measurement adapter are explained in Technical information Bulletin 00 01 83 (2012).

Mixture Measurement Adapter

Sufficient room does not exist on the E30 body to allow conventional measurement of CO by utilizing exhaust pipe taps. CO must, therefore, be measured electronically as explained in the above mentioned Technical Information Bulletin

Notes on Application of Above Adapters

a) During the peripheral L-Jetronic check, test steps 03...05, the T plug must not be connected with the control unit adapter 13 6 400. Likewise, during the control unit check (test steps 06...08) the wiring harness adapter 13 6 410 must not be plugged in (wrong measurements, see also nominal microfiche).

b) if during troubleshooting, resistance is to be tested directly on the airflow meter and on the throttle butterfly switch and if this is done without the pertinent unit's plug being plugged in, the resistance values must be as follows:

On the air flow meter
between leads 8 and 9: 136...340 Ohms
between leads 7 and 190...1050 Ohms
between leads 6 and 325...473 Ohms

On the throttle butterfly switch

between leads 3 and 8 and 2: 999 k Ohms

Reason: Several units in the vehicle are parallel with lead 9 (B+) and leads 5 (B-), among others with diodes.
