Subject: OIL DRAIN AND FILL PLUGS SEIZE
Models: 318i, with ZF S 5-16 SPEED 5 SPEED
Yellow chromatized oil drain and fill plugs, part number 23 11 1 202 717, have been installed in ZF S 5-16 speed gearboxes up to transmission number 11 200. Electrolytic corrosion between the particular alloy used in the transmission and the plugs have caused the drain and fill plugs to seize.
PLEASE ORDER AND INSTALL WHEN CHANGING TRANSMISSION LUBRICANT, ONLY BLACK PHOSPHATED PLUGS, PART NUMBER 23 11 9 057 160 UP TO ZF S 5-16 TRANSMISSION NUMBER 11 200.
Since the alloy used in the Getrag transmission is different, the yellow chromatized plug (with magnet) may still be used on the Getrag transmission only.
Submit a collective warranty claim for all changed plugs, indicating special defect code 00 00 23 10 00.
