SUBJECT: Silicone Ignition Coil Caps P/N 12 12 1 273 299 - M10 Engines P/N 12 12 1 284 464 - M20, M30 Engines

Situation: Effective immediately, only the new improved versions of ignition coil caps are to be used for replacement purposes. These new versions (part numbers unchanged) are much more resistant to spark "flashover" during conditions of high humidity/moisture. They have been gradually introduced into production since March 1985.



Identification:
The new caps are manufactured of a translucent silicone material as opposed to the previous opaque rubber material. The new cap also bears a molded-in date, the BMW symbol, and a design number. Old caps do not bear a molded-in date mark.
Parts
Information: Stocks of all previous versions are to be removed from inventory per instructions from the Parts Department (refer to Dealer Parts Bulletin VII-4 dated 8/85).

The new version caps are available immediately and may be ordered from your Parts Distribution Center.
