This Service Information Bulletin supersedes S.I. 13 10 85 (1067). It lists new labor operation numbers and corrects the Defect Code.

Please remove and discard S.I. 13 10 85 (1067) from your S.I. binder.

SUBJECT: Rough Idle

MODELS: 1984 325e 1984 528e (produced 2/84 and later) 1982-84 528e (produced prior to 2/84 and converted to throttle with "ported vacuum" to purge line as described in S.I. 13 01 84 (819)

Complaint: An erratic rough idle may be encountered during high ambient air temperatures and prolonged periods of idling.

Correction: A purge control valve (P/N 11 63 1 707 770) is now available to correct/prevent the above described condition.

Installation
Instructions: The purge control valve should be installed in the evaporative purge line between the throttle housing and the active charcoal cannister as shown in the vacuum hose routing diagram on page 2.
CAUTION: THE ARROW SHOULD POINT TOWARDS THE THROTTLE HOUSING



The purge control valve should be installed on all involved vehicles whenever they are in your dealership during PDI, 1200-mile service, oil service, etc.

The field fix/revised vacuum hose routing diagram label (illustrated or) page 2) (P/N 89 89 1 000 003) should be installed after the valve has been added.

Status: Reimbursable only up to 50,000 miles or 5 years from date of initial registration.
