SUBJECT: SRS (Airbag) Unit Installation Procedure

MODELS: All so equipped

Situation: When installing the SRS (Airbag) unit onto the steering wheel, the following procedure must be followed to ensure proper operation of the horn.

Installation: Safety Precaution: Always disconnect the SRS connector in the steering column before the removal of the SRS unit from the steering wheel.

1) Connect the lead from the contact ring (continuous loop) to the SRS unit.

2) Place the SRS unit onto the steering wheel and hand tighten the two retaining screws.

3) Using special tool 88 88 6 002 110, first tighten the screw on right side of the steering wheel to 8 N-m and then tighten the left screw to 8 N-m.

Failure to tighten these screws in this sequence may allow the SRS unit to be centered improperly onto the steering wheel, which will increase horn button application forces noticeably.

Note: For further information, refer to the applicable Repair Manual, Group 32.
