SUBJECT: Rear Axle Subframe
MODELS: 5 Series, 7 Series
Situation: The rear axle subframe extension arms are sealed against moisture entry by plastic push-in plugs. The type of plugs used in production prior to 4/89 may be affected by high (under car) temperatures and loosen or fall out.
Correction: Whenever a vehicle produced prior to 4/89 is on a lift for service, the plugs should be checked. Any loose or missing plugs must be replaced with new style plugs as listed below.
Refer to the attached illustration for plug locations.
A: Inboard sides of each arm-10 mm plug B: Underneath each arm-12 mm plug C: Inboard and outboard sides of both arms-10 mm plug
