SUBJECT: Loudspeakers Cutting Out

MODELS: All equipped with BMW Sound System

Complaint: Cracking and hissing is heard through the speakers while radio is in operation. When the volume is turned up, some of the speakers may cut out.

Cause: Improper wiring at the connection on the Sound System amplifier. Pin 4 should have a black wire with brown tracer. Pin 18 should have a brown wire with black tracer. These two wires have been found reversed on the harness side of the 20-pin connector located by the amplifier.

Repair: Remove the two wires from the 20-pin connector using the special puller (P/N 81 24 9 408 087) found in the Electrical Repair Kit #1. Insert the wires into the proper locations.
