SUBJECT: ABS sensor wire harness routing
MODEL: 1986 E 30 (up to 2/86 production)
FIGURE 1 - ABS CONNECTOR - OLD LOCATION:
Situation: Some cars produced before 2/86 may have the wiring harness for the right front ABS sensor routed as shown in Figure 1.
If routed this way, the following symptoms may appear:
1) A loop is formed in the harness below the ignition coil, possibly allowing - electromagnetic interference from the coil to enter the harness.
2) A loop is formed in the harness inside the wheel housing, possibly allowing it to rub against the strut or wheel.
FIGURE 2 - ABS CONNECTOR - NEW LOCATION:
Repair
Procedure: Route the harness as shown in Figure 2 using a new mounting clip..
