Ignition System: Description and Operation
With the Motronic system, primary current switching and dwell period are controlled within the Motronic Control Unit (MCU) based on signals from the TDC, reference and engine speed sensors. The MCU controls ignition system operation, including ignition timing, and the electronic fuel injection system based on signals from various engine and vehicle sensors. On these models, the ignition distributor is used only to direct secondary spark voltage to the spark plugs.
