SUBJECT:
Door Latch Mounting Screws

MODELS:
325i Convertible

Situation:
The screws mounting the front door latch assemblies can work loose on cars produced prior to July, 1988. The Phillips head screws used in early production have been replaced with Torx screws with micro-encapsulated threads.

Correction:
Whenever a 325i convertible produced in July 1988 or earlier is in the workshop, check the door latch mounting screws to see which style screw is used. If Phillips head screws are found they should be replaced with the later production Torx screws, part number 51 21 8 100 708.

Note:
Replace one screw at a time to prevent the latch assembly from failing into the door.

Warranty Status:
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Car Limited Warranty of 3 Years/36,000 Miles.
