Rear License Plate Mounting

Situation:
The rear license plate or accessory frame may contact the rib on the rear body panel, which can damage the paint on the panel. If there are any burrs present on the plate or frame, the paint can be rubbed through to bare metal, causing a corrosion problem.
Correction:
New plastic nuts to mount the license plate (increased thickness from approximately 4 mm to 8 mm) are available under P/N 51 18 1 973 549 (4 per car). If the shape of your state's license plate, or frames supplied by your dealership contact the rear body panel rib, replace the 4 mm thick nuts with 8 mm nuts.
Warranty Status:
Replaceable under the terms of the BMW 36 Month/36,000 Mile New Car Limited Warranty.
