2: CIPRO / Siemens Airbag System

IDENTIFICATION
Although the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) uses components which are common to all SRS equipped vehicles, the control units may differ. Vehicles were originally equipped with control units manufactured by CIPRO. SRS control units manufactured by SIEMENS were phased into production and is the only type available as a replacement part.

When performing diagnosis on the SRS, it will be important to determine which control unit is installed in the vehicle. This can be accomplished by checking the identification label on the control unit or by observing the SRS indicator lamp operation.

CIPRO SRS Control Module Lamp Operation
When a defect is detected in the SRS, the lamp will operate as follows.

When turning "On" the ignition the SRS lamp will:
1) Illuminate briefly
2) Extinguish.
3) Illuminate continuously

SIEMENS SRS Control Module Lamp Operation
When a defect is detected in the SRS, the lamp will operate as follows.

When turning "On" the ignition the SRS lamp will:
1) Illuminate briefly
2) Extinguish.
3) Flash for approx. 5 minutes and then illuminate continuously
