Shift Linkage: Adjustments

Adjusting Selector Level, Throttle Linkage & Cable




A) Adjusting Selector Lever.
- Check tightness of console before making adjustments.
- Disconnect selector rod (1) on selector lever lower section (2).
- Engage selector lever (3) on transmission in position N.
- Press selector lever (4) against stop (5) on shift gate.
- Keep changing length of selector rod (1) until pin (6) is aligned with bore in selector lever lower Section (2).
- Now shorten length of selector rod by 1 to 2 turns with pin (6).
IMPORTANT!
New shift gate beginning with 1985 models.
Selector rod length may only be shortened by 1 turn.
- Connect and secure selector rod.

B) Adjusting Throttle Cable.
Requirement: full throttle adjustment correct.
- Adjust play (S) to 0.50 ± 0.25 mm (0.020+ 0.010") with nuts (1) in idle position.
- Check kickdown stop (2).
- Loosen lock nut (3) and screw in kickdown stop (2).
- Push down accelerator pedal (4) to transmission pressure point.
- Unscrew kickdown stop in this position, until it contacts the accelerator pedal.
- Push down accelerator pedal (4) to kickdown (final position).
- Now distance (S) from lead seal (5) to end of sleeve (6) must be at least 44 mm (1.732").




Version with Cable.
- Move selector lever (1) to "P".
- Loosen nut (2).
- Push lever (3) forward (park position).
- Push cable rod (4) opposite forward direction.
- Clamp cable rod (4) with nut (2).
- Tightening torque: 10 to 12 Nm (7.0 to 8.5 ft. lbs.).
