Installing Exchange Transmission

Transmission Identification:





BMW code on front case section.
Transmission Type: Getrag 240 and 260.





BMW code on front case section.
Transmission Type: ZF - S5 - 16.

Procedure:
- Remove transmission.

NOTE: Mount vent prior to installation of transmission (see red label).





- Transfer spring (1) and release lever (2) with release bearing (3).
- Give transmission input shaft a light coat of Microlube GL 261 in area of splines and guide pins.




Installation Notes:
Pack lubricating groove (N) with Molykote Longterm 2.
Lubricate guides and bearings lightly with Molykote Longterm 2.
Non-conformance could cause the bearing to seize on the guide sleeve.





- Push back locking sleeve (1).
- Drive out cylindrical pin (2).
- Transfer shift rod joint.

NOTE:
Check installed position of the shift rod joint - the offset end of the shift rod joint must face right as seen looking forward in car.





- Transfer rubber mounts, exhaust carrier and backup light switch.

NOTE: Check the oil level after installation of the transmission.
