ELECTRIC ANTENNA INSTALLATION - E32/E34








(REFER TO ATTACHED DIAGRAMS FOR LOCATIONS)

WARNING: Do not use the installation instructions supplied with the antenna. Incorrect

Body nut 07 12 9 925 720

^ Drill a 19 mm (E32) or 22 mm (E34) hole as shown.

^ Remove burrs with a round file

^ Coat bare metal using BMW Touch-Up Paint Stick.

Note: Apply thoroughly to prevent corrosion from forming later on.

Remove the following components:

^ Rear seat back cushion (750iL left side only).

^ Rear seat bottom cushion (750iL left side only).

^ Left C-pillar interior trim panel.

^ Trunk mat.

^ Tail light access panel (located in trunk) - not required on E34.

^ Left rear wheel housing cover (located in trunk).

^ Harness covering (located along left side of trunk).

Cable Routing

^ Disconnect the antenna coax and the white wire (radio "ON" input) from the antenna amplifier.

^ Remove these wires from the harness between the access plug and antenna amplifier so they can be routed into the trunk.

^ Route these wires into the trunk through the access plug on the rear bulkhead.

Antenna Mounting

^ Check that the paint around the antenna hole is dry.

^ Insert rubber grommet into body.

^ Snap the bracket onto the bottom of the antenna.

^ Plug the 3-wire antenna harness into the antenna.

^ Push the antenna up into the mounting grommet (lubricate ball end of the antenna with silicone grease to aid installation).

^ Secure the bottom of the antenna to the inner fender panel using a body nut P/N 07 12 9 925 72 and the 6 mm hex head screw supplied in the installation kit.

^ Connect the black wire and the braided ground strap to the ground point forward (E32) (rearwar (E34)) of the antenna. Secure with a 6 mm lock washer and nut.

^ Using a Scotch-lock wire connector, connect the red wire to the .75 red/white wire at the connector X298 (E32); locate one of the red/white wires in the harness that goes to the trunk lid (E34).

^ Connect the antenna coax cable (supplied with the antenna) to the antenna and to the antenna coax originally connected to the antenna amplifier.

Final Steps

^ Turn radio ON and check for proper operation of the antenna.

^ Reinstall components previously removed.
