SUBJECT:
Noise with Sunroof Open

MODELS:
E32 and E34

Situation:
Some customers may experience a fluttering or buzzing noise from the roof area while driving with the sunroof fully open.

This noise may be caused by a loose piece of tape used to cover the paint drain holes on the reinforcing rib (which runs from side to side) immediately behind the sunroof opening. This only applies to cars produced prior to 6/91.

Correction:
If a loose piece of tape is found, remove the tape. This can be done by reaching between the roof structure and sunroof with a long pair of needlenose pliers and pulling the tape out until you can reach it with your hand, and then pulling it the rest of the way out. It is not necessary to replace the tape.

Warranty
Status:
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Car Limited Warranty.
