Brake Light Switch: Service and Repair

1. Remove trim necessary to facilitate removal of trim, If required.
2. Pull off electrical connections to switch.
3. On 1986-88 735i/750 iL models, depress brake pedal, then pull plunger and sleeve completely forward. Press in retainers and pull back switch.
4. On models except 735i/750 iL, loosen locknut and unscrew switch.
5. To replace, screw in switch and lock it so that a 0.197-0.236 inch (5-6 mm) of black contact button is visible.
6. Reinstall connectors and install trim.
