Air Management System Overview

Managing the intake air that is inducted by an electronically controlled, fuel injected engine maintains the optimum air/fuel ratio for engine performance and emissions.

Obviously, air management is performed through all phases of engine operating conditions by the main throttle plate angle via the throttle cable or by the electronic throttle control system (EML) of the V12 engines.

There are other conditions where manipulating air flow is required as follows:
- Maintaining engine idle when the main throttle plate is closed. Driving conditions where vehicle traction is diminished.
- DISA: Differential Air Intake System.

Understanding all the paths the air flows through to meet these requirements is crucial to properly diagnose a fault associated with air management.
