This Service Information Bulletin supersedes S.I. 61 02 87 (1392) dated April 1990. It incorporates a revised defect code.

Please remove and discard S.I. 61 02 87 (1392) dated April 1990 from your S.I. binder.

SUBJECT: On-Board Computer Temperature Display

MODEL: E32 (vehicles produced up to 2/89)

Complaint: Temperature displayed on the On-Board Computer (OBC) panel is much higher than actual temperature - example: 145~F. If the foglights are turned on the temperature display drops considerably - example:
-22~F.

Situation: Water in the foglight-temperature sensor connector X71 gives an improper resistance reading to the OBC module resulting in incorrect temperature displays. A repair harness to isolate the temperature sensor wires from connector X71 has been developed. Use the attached repair procedures for this installation.

Parts
Information: One repair harness P/N 61 13 8 350 119 is required for each effected vehicle.

Vehicles produced prior to 10/88 will also require the newer style temperature sensor P/N 65 81 1 383 204.

Action Label
Instructions: This Service Action has been assigned code number 28. After the prescribed work has been performed, obtain a label (SD 89-003) and

a) Emboss your BMW dealer warranty number in the middle of the label.

b) Punch out code number 28 printed on the label.

c) Bend label to crease an edge and remove the backing paper. Then affix R to the "B" pillar (on driver's front door) as shown.





If the car affected already has a label from a previous Service Action/ Recall Campaign, affix this new label to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched out hole of the new label.
