This Service Information bulletin is being re-issued in order to emphasize the required condition (printed in red) for the passenger's seat heater to operate.

Please attach this page to the original printing of this S.I. (with attached schematics) dated October 1988.

SUBJECT:
Power Distribution

MODEL:
1989 E 32

Situation:
To prevent excessive battery draw when the ignition is in the "RUN" position without the engine running, the following changes have been made:

^ Components found on page 1230-02 are now powered when the engine is running via an additional relay KL61. This relay, located in the front power distribution box, opens if there is no output from terminal 61 of the alternator.

^ Seat heating - the driver's seat heater is only powered with the engine running via relay KL61.

The passenger's seat heater is wired similarly with the addition of the seat belt contact providing a ground for an additional relay located in the seat back.

The engine must be running, and the seat belt fastened in order for the passenger's seat heater to work.

A completely new Electrical Troubleshooting Manual for the 1989 E 32's is in preparation and will be sent automatically to all dealerships.
