11. If there is a brake induced vibration, perform the following steps:

Remove front brake pads and check for uneven or unusual wear, and note the type of pads. Check the front brake discs for thickness variation and runout. Check the surface of the discs for indications of uneven coloring or hard spots in the material. Reface or replace discs and pads as necessary.

Special Hint for Service Managers and Service Advisors:

After having installed new brake components or refaced brake discs, please advise the customer of the following:

^ Proper operation of the brakes during the first 200 to 300 miles has a significant influence on brake component durability. It can double the longevity of the brakes.

^ Breaking-in new brakes the proper way means not braking too hard during the first 200 to 300 miles. Whenever traffic conditions will allow it, apply light brake pedal pressure and increase it smoothly until moderate pressure is achieved. Please point out to the customer that, of course, these maintenance hints do not have to be followed in emergency situations.
