Engine: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain coolant.
2. Remove transmission from vehicle.
3. Raise and hood and lock in complete upright position.
4. Remove air cleaner and air mass sensor.
5. Disconnect idle speed control valve and crankcase breather hoses.
6. Remove air guide from alternator, then loosen bolts and remove air induction tray.
7. Remove fan cowl, fan and radiator. Fan mounting nut has lefthand threads.
8. Disconnect coolant hoses from heating valve and heater.
9. Remove fresh air duct, then disconnect and remove throttle cable.
10. Remove brake booster vacuum hose, then remove engine covers.
11. Disconnect timing case cover ground strap, then loosen bolts and remove plug plate.
12. Disconnect ignition coil connectors, then lift off plug plate complete with wires attached.
13. Disconnect cylinder head vent hose.
14. Disconnect air temperature sensor connector, tank vent hose and throttle valve heating tube.
15. Disconnect throttle valve switch electrical connector and idle speed control hose.
16. Carefully disconnect fuel hoses, then loosen manifold support bracket bolts.
17. Remove intake manifold from cylinder head.
18. Disconnect temperature sensor, temperature gauge, oil pressure switch and idling speed control valve electrical connectors.
19. Disconnect cylinder identification sender and DME pulse sender plugs.
20. Disconnect alternator and starter cables.
21. Remove engine electrical lead duct.
22. Disconnect power steering pump from engine, leaving power steering lines connected. Suspend power steering pump from frame.
23. Disconnect A/C compressor from engine, leaving A/C lines connected.
24. Connect engine lifting tool No. 11 0 020 or equivalent, to engine lifting eyes.
25. Disconnect engine mounts and any remaining wires or hoses.
26. Carefully remove engine from vehicle.
27. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten all bolts and nuts to specifications.
