Adaptive Idle Speed Regulation System

The mechanical component, i.e., the electronically governed idle control valve, as well as the basic inputs to the Control Unit such as engine coolant temperature, gear shift lever position on automatic cars and air conditioner operation are unchanged. What is new is that the idle speed system of the M1.1 has adaptive, i.e. self learning abilities.

The Control Unit continuously compares the permanently programmed data base with actual values. If it recognizes a deviation of this data base, for example due to break in wear or air leaks, it superimposes the adapted data to the fixed programmed data and stores it in its memory. Giving corresponding signals to the idle control valve, the bypass air is regulated to values which keep the idle in specifications. The memory can be erased by interrupting the voltage supply to the Control Unit. New adaptation will be completed within several minutes of engine operation.
