SUBJECT: Alignment Dowel Pins
MODELS: All
Situation: Two alignment dowel pins are used at the engine/transmission mating point. During repairs which require the transmission to be detached from the engine, the dowel pins can be loosened and fall out of their drillings.
The correct engine/transmission mating point alignment is determined by the presense of the dowel pins.
The absence of one or both dowel pins can result in premature clutch wear, converter bearing wear or M20/M21 starter problems.
Solution: Whenever repairs are performed which require separation of the engine and transmission, the alignment dowel pins should be replaced.
