SUBJECT:
Sound System

Complaint:
Excessive static/whining is heard through all speakers and sound is distorted when the volume is turned above the halfway point.
Situation:
The common ground wire for the radio and Sound System amplifier may be improperly connected to the rear of the radio.
Repair
1) Verify that connection is as shown making sure that the spring washer is placed between the eyelet and radio housing.
2) Tighten connection with either pliers (E32, E34) or 8 mm wrench (E24, E30).
NOTE:
Take extra care when reinstalling the radios equipped with the guide pin as the rear radio support bracket may be knocked out of place.
Do not mount this ground wire to any other equipment or location on the vehicle. Such grounds may cause unwanted noises to be heard through the speakers.
