Please remove and discard (orange) Advance Dealer Information 11 01 90 (3035) dated March 1990 and (white) S.I. 11 01 90 (3035) dated June 1990 from your S.I. binder.
SUBJECT: Oil Cooler and Oil Cooler Pipes
MODELS: All E30 (after 9-87 production) except M3
Complaint: Vibration and droning noise at engine speed of approximately 2000 rpm.
Situation: The thermostat in the oil filter head opens at an oil temperature of approximately 185~F. As the oil circulates through the cooler, fluid pulsations can cause the oil cooler to vibrate, depending on individual component tolerances. These vibrations can be transmitted via the cooler attachments to the body, causing the above mentioned complaint.
Correction: Install the new style oil cooler rubber mountings and sleeves as depicted on the attachment to this S.I. Please note that washer 07 11 9 931 672 should be installed between the sleeve and the rubber block guiding the oil cooler pipes as shown on the illustration. This is to increase the clearance between this rubber block and the body. In addftion, please check and ensure that the oil cooler pipes do not touch the body, skirts or fan shroud and thus still transmit vibration.
