Evaporative Emission Control System

The M1.1 evaporative system is regulated by a solenoid activated from the Control Unit. The purge valve, which is normally open (no current), can be closed (during coasting), pulsated in different frequencies or held open (upper load range), depending on engine speed, engine load, coolant temperature and feedback from the lambda control system.

When the engine is shut off, power supply to the purge valve lasts for another 3 to 5 seconds and keeps the valve closed to prevent the engine from "dieseling".

NOTE
With the engine running (at operating temperature) and the charcoal canister being purged, the control unit disrupts the purging, i.e. closes the valve after every 7 minutes, for one minute. This allows the system to go back to the basic adaptation and to detect if any conditions, besides the possible major purge influence, have changed since the last "one-minute-check" (for example slight air leaks, altitude, etc.).
