90bmw20 Group 62 InstrumentsBulletin Number 62 06 90 (3106)
Woodcliff Lake, NJ October 1990 Service Engineering
SUBJECT: Deflection of Tachometer Needle
MODELS: 5 Series (E34), 7 Series (E32) - Equipped with Instrument Cluster Redesign
Situation: When the engine is switched OFF, the tachometer needle may deflect upwards and display a momentary erroneous reading.
Cause: As the alternator slows to a stop, a high frequency voltage may be directed to terminal 15 (ignition switch position II) via the charging indicator lamp.
Correction: If this situation is encountered, relay K61 in the front power distribution box should be replaced.
Instead of the load-relief relay (K61), a special diode relay (P/N 61 36 8 350 565) has been phased into production for a limited period (from week 12 of 1990 to end of 1990 model production). With the commencement of 1991 model production, following a wiring harness change, a new K61 relay will be introduced (see note in parts microfiche).
