SUBJECT:
Seat Back Release Difficult to Operate

MODELS:
E36 Two Door Models with Electric Seats produced prior to 9/94

SITUATION:
E36 two door models with electric seats may encounter a problem with the seat back release being difficult to operate. This problem is most evident when trying to release the passenger seat by using the inner release, as the handle is shorter and provides less leverage. An improved release cable with less drag has been developed and is now available as a replacement part. This substantially reduces the effort required to operate the release. In addition, the backrest design was changed as of 9/94 production to eliminate the pressure on the release catch that exists with the early design.

CORRECTION:
In case of customer complaint, replace the release cable with part number 52 10 8 211 437. When reinstalling the backrest shell, route the release cable in front of the transverse tube on the back of the seat frame, rather than behind the tube as originally assembled.
