Note:
After completion of work, check transmission oil.
Disconnect battery.
Remove exhaust system.
Unflange propeller shaft from transmission and tie to one side.
Remove bracket for transmission underbody protection (1 - 2) and heat shield (3).
Pull cable connector (1) off reverse gear switch.
Release cable from Retainers.
Caution:
Pressure pipe remains connected.
Slowly relieve tension on clutch slave cylinder when removing as otherwise air will be drawn in through sealing sleeve.
Release nuts and remove clutch slave.
Remove stabilizer link from stabilizer, refer to Steering and Suspension.
Swivel stabilizer upwards.
Support transmission with a workshop hoist.
Release screws and remove crossmember.
Tightening torque, refer to Manual Transmission/Transaxle, Specifications.
Insert special tool 11 7 370 between engine oil sump and front axle support.
Lower transmission.
Support front of engine with a workshop hoist.
Lift out retainer (4).
Withdraw selector rod from joint and remove window (5).
Installation:
Grease selector rod.

Lift out retaining clip with a screwdriver.
Withdraw bearing pin and remove selector arm.
Installation:
Grease bearing pin.
Use suitable grease
Support transmission with a workshop hoist.
Unfasten screws (10 off).
Caution: Do not allow transmission to hang on transmission input shaft while removing and installing, as the clutch disk will be deformed.
Pull transmission downwards and remove.
Installation:
Only fit screws in conjunction with washers.
Tightening torque, refer to Manual Transmission/Transaxle, Specifications.
Installation:
Note dowel sleeves.
If necessary, remove dowel sleeves from transmission case and install in engine block.
Replace damaged dowel sleeves.
Installation:
Remove and clean release unit and release lever and grease appropriate points, refer to Clutch M/T, Throw-out Fork.
Installation:
Check lubrication of transmission input shaft for sticky consistency. If grease is sticky, clutch disk must be replaced, refer to Clutch M/T, Clutch Disc.
Check clutch disk for friction rust in taper splines and replace if necessary, .
Mechanically remove old grease and lining abrasion from taper splines of clutch disk (with a cloth).
Clean spline grooves and guide spigots on transmission input shaft and then using a brush apply a thin coat of grease.
The required grease quantity is approximately the size of a corn kernel.
Use a suitable grease.
