Replacing Backrest Shell on Front Seat (Mechanical)




Removing and installing/replacing backrest shell on left or right front seat


Removing backrest shell

Removing seat cushion,







Loosen retainers.







Installation:
Lock new retainers by bending with special tool 52 0 050.







Fold up cloth tab and remove screws.

Installation:
Screws are micro-encapsulated and must always be replaced.







Pull out headrest in upwards direction.







Unclip plate.







Unscrew bolts.







Only Coupe with mechanical seat adjustment:
Remove screws and shoe guard.







Version with seat heating (backrest):
If necessary, cut through cable tie (1 .. 3).
With lumbar support version;
If necessary, pull on foam rubber (4) and cut through hose connection at angle joint.

Installation:
Check function.







Version with seat heating (backrest):
If necessary, disconnect connector disconnect plug, unlock plug receptacle, pull off and guide through seat-cushion shell.

Installation:
Check function.







Only Coupe with mechanical seat adjustment:
Pull off retainer.







Installation:
Backrest lock must engage correctly.

Move cable laterally back and forth in the holders so that the cable "settles" (free of play!).


CAUTION!
Do not pull on cable
.


Use new retainer.







Unclip ball socket.
New version:
Lift out retaining disc and disconnect Bowden cable.

Installation:
Fit new retaining disc.







Push cable forward and disconnect it.







Only Coupe with electric seat adjustment:
Unscrew screw and remove shoe guard at bottom.







Pull off retainer.







Installation:
Backrest lock must engage correctly.

Move cable laterally back and forth in the holders so that the cable "settles" (free of play!).


CAUTION!
Do not pull on cable
.


Use new retainer.







Unclip ball socket.







Push cable forward and detach it.







Installation:
Backrest unlocking cable (1) must be routed as shown.







All models except compact:
Move backrest to 45 ° backwards angle.







Pull off backrest padding in upward direction.
Pull cloth sleeve or plastic sleeve out of the backrest padding as applicable.







If applicable, clean dirtied backrest frame (to remove grease).







Installation:
Pull undamaged cloth sleeve (to prevent grinding noise) over backrest frame.







Replacing backrest shell (only sedan):
Loosen retainers at bottom.

Installation:
Secure clips (16 mm long) with air pressure tacker.






Loosen retainers on backrest shell.

Installation:
Lock new retainers by bending with special tool 52 0 050.







Lift out cover all around and remove together with padding (foam rubber).







Installation:
The spring clips in the plug-in groove must not be damaged; replace them if necessary.

To avoid folds in backrest cover (1), it must fit properly in the plug-in groove.
