Maintenance: Service and Repair

BMW requires that every three years from the production date that a complete inspection of the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) be performed. Visually check that:

a. All airbag (SRS) components are still in the original positions and have not been modified in any way.
b. No unauthorized wiring modifications, additional cables, or plug connections have been connected to the airbag harness.
c. The airbag assembly cover and tear-away lines must not be cut, torn or split in any fashion.
d. The airbag assembly should not have been treated with any type of cleaning solutions, lubricants or protectants.
e. The appropriate SRS labels are still present in the glove box and on the sub-frame.
