Air Temperature Signals

NTC SENSOR INTEGRAL WITH AIR FLOW METER (M1.7-M42)

The intake air temperature signal is needed by the engine control module to correct the air volume input for changes in the intake air temperature (air density). The signal is used for the control of injection duration and ignition timing.

The sensor is an NTC resistor (negative temperature coefficient). It is located in the air flow meter in front of the measuring flap. Any changes to the intake air temperature are detected by the sensor and received by the control module as varying voltage signal.

SEPARATE SENSOR BY SYSTEMS WITH AIR MASS SENSORS (FILM & WIRE)

Intake air density (temperature) for injection is automatically compensated for by the air mass meter. But, an additional air temperature NTC sensor is required for ignition timing.

The sensor is located either directly in the intake manifold(s) or in the air filter box. Electrically the operation of the sensor is the same as with an air flow meter.
