Secret Numbers Required For MS Operation

Secret Numbers Required For MS Operation
Before the MS can download software, certain secret numbers must be entered with the MoDiC placed in the pre-formed tray of the MS. The secret numbers are required for security reasons. The secret numbers prevent unauthorized software download if the equipment is stolen or used for unauthorized purposes.

- Code Number: The Code number is a unique electronic ID number for each MS and can't be changed. The code number is initially entered when the MS is put into service and will not be required for download as long as the MoDiC is enabled with the MS. The enabling function is activated from the Special Function menu (refer to MS Operating Instructions book and IDC bulletin # 009/92/-08 for further information).

The code number for each MS is printed on a label and was shipped with the MS to each dealer. As stated in the MS Operating Instructions book, it should be kept in a safe place away from the MS to prevent unauthorized MS use.

The code number must be entered into MS via the MoDiC on the first day of every January and July. The program in the MoDiC station recognizes the first day of these months and as a safety measure requires it to be re-entered.

- Password: The password is a 5 digit number that is made up and saved by the dealership personnel. It can be changed at any time. The factory default password is 12345.

If the password is forgotten, enter the code number in it's place. This will release the MS and a new password must be saved. For this reason it is important that the code number is stored in a safe place as noted above.

- Dealer Number: Though it is not secret, it is necessary to enter the dealer number into the MoDiC when downloading software with the download station of the DIS (described on page 13).

The DIS download station does not have a code number but uses the loaded dealer number as a security check. If the dealer number was entered incorrectly when the DIS basis operating software was installed, it can be determined by printing a feedback report from the diagnosis section of DIS (reference the DIS introduction handout).
