Fuel Supply Overview

Obviously, the basic requirements needed for an internal combustion gasoline engine 10 operate are of course, Fuel, Air and Spark.

Simply put, the job of the Fuel Supply System is to transfer gasoline from the fuel tank to the fuel injectors within a specific pressure range. From there it is injected (atomized) into the intake manifold and allowed to mix with inducted air. Finally, it's compressed and ignited by the spark plugs.

The various Engine Management Systems covered by this course utilize different hardware for delivering and maintaining fuel pressures due to changes in emission control regulations and advances in system design.

These differences can be seen in the various types of:
- Fuel tanks,
- Fuel pumps,
- Fuel hoses and clamps,
- Fuel filters,
- Running Loss 3/2 way valve utilization
- Fuel Rails
- Fuel Pressure Regulators
- Use of fuel return hose syphon jets
