Left Hand Side

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FUEL LEVEL SENSOR (LEFT):

Sucking the fuel out of the fuel tank, Service and Repair




- Disconnect connector.

NOTE: Ensure that area around fuel tank screw connection is clean.




- Disconnect fuel return hose (1).

NOTE: Tank expansion lead is fitted inside fuel tank.




- Unfasten rotary connection with special tool 16 1 020.

Installation Note:
- Replace sealing ring. Check rotary connection for damage and replace if necessary. To ensure adequate preload on the seal, always fit new rotary connection on torsion bar.
- Tighten rotary connection with torsion bar and check torque.




- Carefully remove tank sensor, pressing height button slightly towards housing.




- Fuel tank expansion line is fitted in fuel tank.
- Depress detent (1) and remove tank expansion line.




Installation Note:
- Ensure that non-return valve (1) is fitted in tank expansion line.




NOTE:
- If the air valve does not function, the fuel delivery unit (right) must be removed,
- After removal of fuel level sensor (left), check whether tank expansion lead (1) has engaged in surge tank (2).




Installation Note:
- The marker rib on the fuel level sensor must match the mark on the fuel tank.




CAUTION: Fuel return hose and tank expansion line are pressed with preload to base of fuel tank.
- Swing-arm and float must still move easily.




Installation Note:
- Swivel air valve and float into fuel tank.
- Press fuel level sensor vertically into correct position with height sensor perceptibly in contact with base of fuel tank.
