The front and rear door frame assembly, including the "C" pillar and rear quarter panel are stamped as one piece. This allows the gap tolerances to be reduced by approximately 1mm to between 4.0 and 4.5mm around all door openings.

A single piece "tube" design seal is used as the primary seal for the front and rear doors.

The complete door frame assembly is laser welded to the roof panel. This ensures complete bonding and enhances the structural rigidity of the completed body assembly.

The Door Anchoring System, introduced on the E38, is carried over to the E39.

The metal hook integrated into the door braces is designed to catch in the recessed notches in the "B" and "C" pillars on side impact. This creates a uni-body between the doors and side members that improves the overall rigidity of the body during a side impact.

Once the crash forces have diminished, the hooks will spring back and release to allow the doors to be opened.
