Program Switch

Program Switch

The program switch signals allow the TCM to switch to a different shift program (A = economy, M or * = Manual or winter and in some cases S = Sport). The TCM changes the shift points based on the status of the program switch input signals.

2 Position Program Switch: The two position switch comes in two configurations, a push button type switch and a forward-backward slide switch. When the driver moves the program switch to M = Manual or A = Economy, a momentary low signal is received by the EGS control unit module. The EGS control unit module has separate inputs for "M" or "A".
The sport shift program on this version is selected when in the economy mode, by moving the shift selector to "3". The "S" program is indicated by the cluster when it receives two high signals from the EGS control unit module.

Indication of the program selected is through instrument cluster display (E32, E34), EKM to the cluster (E1), indicator lamps within the program switch (E36), or via the transmission one way data link to the IKE or instrument cluster of the E38 and E39 vehicles. Sport program display is via the range selector switch (status of 4th or 3rd gear selection).

3 Position Program Switch: The M3 Automatic is equipped with the A5S 310Z uses the 3 position program switch which contains the A, M and S positions.
