Voice input system

Components
The voice input system consists of a separate control unit with corresponding link to the I/K-bus, the telephone button on the multifunction steering wheel, the microphone and the telephone speakers. In the instrument cluster voice input is indicated in the display and output via speakers.

Function
The telephone button is pressed for at least 1 second to request voice input. The voice input system is now activated. Corresponding information appears in the instrument cluster. The recorded instructions are transferred via the I/K-bus and executed.

Diagnosis
The peripherals (microphone and speaker) of the voice input system are checked as part of a self-test. This test is started and conducted by DIS (BMW Service Tester). The results are stored in the fault code memory. The windows and doors must be closed for this purpose.
