Electronic Pressure Control Valves

Mechatronic Solenoid Valves (MV), Electronic Pressure Control Valves (EDS)

The mechatronic system (electronic module and hydraulic unit) has various solenoid valves and electronic pressure control valves.

Functional description, see BMW Technology:
TIS -> Document -> SI Technology -> SBT Number
- 2401 03 040

Brief description of components (solenoid valves)
The solenoid valves are 3/2-way valves, i.e. valves with 3 connections and 2 switch positions.

Brief description of components (electronic pressure actuators)
The EDS convert electric current into a proportional hydraulic pressure and thus activate hydraulic valves with their corresponding switch elements.

Two types of electronic pressure actuators are fitted:
- EDS with rising characteristic curve (green cap)
Pressure range 0 to 4.6 bar

- EDS with falling characteristic curve (black cap)
Pressure range 4.6 to 0 bar

Mechatronic calibration following repairs
If the Mechatronic has to be replaced in the course of repairs, it must be labeled as a replacement Mechatronic using the service function "Mechatronic calibration".

The service function must also be run after repair to individual electronic pressure actuators or of the electronic module. Here, the replaced electronic pressure actuators are marked in the control module as exchange parts. If this designation is not carried out, the shift quality can be reduced significantly.

After replacement of the entire transmission, the service function does not have to be run, as the transmission is already fully calibrated on delivery.

In all cases, it is advisable to delete stored adaptation values.
