Replacing Radial Shaft Seal for Transmission Extension (A5S 360R/390R/4WD)

24 13 040 - Replacing radial shaft seal for transmission extension (A5S 360R/390R/4WD)





Special tools required:
- 00 5 500 00 5 500 Handle for Drifts
- 23 1 380 23 1 380 Drift





Important!
After completion of work, check gear oil level Procedures.

Use only the approved automatic transmission fluid in this automatic transmission.

Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the automatic transmission!





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove and install transfer box Removing And Installing Transfer Case (ATC 400 X-Drive).





Release screws on transmission extension (1),

Tightening torque 24 00 3AZ Transmission in General.

Pull off transmission extension (1).





Replace gasket (1) between transmission housing and end cover.

Insert new sealing ring (2) in groove of output shaft.





E46 4WD:

Replace gasket (1) between transmission housing and end cover.

Attach slip sleeve (2) and install end cover.

Note:
Slip sleeve (2) is an integral part of the repair kit.





Clamp extension (1) in vice with protective vice jaws.

Lever out radial shaft seal (2) using a screwdriver (3) and a block of wood (4) as a rest.





Drive in radial shaft seal with special tools 23 1 380 23 1 380 Drift and 00 5 500 00 5 500 Handle for Drifts until flush.
